KUALA LUMPUR — The Malaysian Prime Minister has commissioned the services of Batman, the world’s greatest detective, in a last-ditch attempt to identify the mysterious individuals responsible for the annual haze that has plagued Southeast Asia for decades.
The decision comes after years of inconclusive investigations by environmental scientists, government agencies, and regional authorities, who have successfully established that the haze originates from Indonesian forest fires but have struggled to determine who could possibly be setting them.
“We know where the fires are. We know which plantations are burning. We have satellite imagery, land ownership records, and decades of environmental reports,” said a Malaysian government spokesperson. “Unfortunately, none of these things have helped us establish who might be responsible.”
“At this point, we need someone who can think outside the box.”
Malaysia rejects Pattinson’s effeminate Batman in favour of Bale’s
Malaysian officials confirmed that the government specifically requested Christian Bale’s Batman, after rejecting the newer incarnation portrayed by Robert Pattinson.
“We reviewed both candidates extensively,” explained the spokesperson. “Bale’s Batman is a muscular billionaire who drives armoured vehicles, beats criminals into intensive care, and speaks like he has been gargling gravel. That is the kind of masculinity we need to tackle this environmental crisis.”
“Pattinson’s Batman, on the other hand, wears eyeliner, has beautifully styled hair, and spends a worrying amount of time processing his emotions. Frankly, he looks too effeminate to confront Indonesian plantation owners.”
Officials also expressed concern that Pattinson’s Batman might become emotionally overwhelmed by the haze, retreat into his bedroom, and compose a three-hour documentary about how the smoke makes him feel.

Indonesian authorities urge Batman not to jump to conclusions
Indonesian officials have cautioned against drawing premature conclusions, pointing out that the ownership of burning land does not necessarily establish a relationship with the people setting the fires.
“There are many possible explanations,” explained an Indonesian environment ministry representative. “For example, the fires could have started themselves, or perhaps someone completely unrelated to the plantations decided to clear thousands of hectares of land as a recreational activity.”
“Just because someone owns a plantation, and that plantation catches fire, and the fire conveniently clears the land for profitable agricultural development, does not mean the plantation owner is responsible,” the spokesperson clarified.
Several businessmen suspected of involvement in the fires have since retreated into their heavily-fortified doomsday bunkers, fearing that Batman might employ the skyhook extraction technique used to abduct Hong Kong businessman Lau in The Dark Knight, shown in the video below.
ASEAN announces formation of Task Force to study Batman’s Findings
Following the investigation, ASEAN officials announced the establishment of a new regional task force to assess Batman’s preliminary conclusions.
The task force will be responsible for determining whether individuals who financially benefit from forest fires should be considered suspects in investigations into those fires, a question that has challenged regional policymakers for generations.
“We welcome Batman’s contribution to this important dialogue,” said an ASEAN representative. “However, we must emphasise that any proposed solution must respect national sovereignty, regional sensitivities, and the right of member states to continue discussing the issue indefinitely.”
The task force is expected to produce a preliminary report by 2034, followed by a comprehensive feasibility study in 2041.
Meanwhile, Malaysian authorities have expressed cautious optimism that Batman’s investigation could finally provide the answers necessary to address the recurring environmental crisis.
“We are confident that with enough evidence, enough international cooperation, and enough strongly worded statements, we will eventually identify the responsible parties,” said the Malaysian spokesperson.
